The brass band made world famous by the 1996 hit movie Brassed Off once again deliver some of the finest music ever made.
Grimethorpe may have received 2 Gold Discs in the UK and 1 in Australia for the soundtrack to Brassed Off, but their roots go back to 1917 when the band was first formed. In their 93 year history the band have received numerous awards and accolades, they have performed all over the world including Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Hong Kong, the USA and most of Northern Europe, wowed audiences at Proms in the Park and became the first brass band to reach the No.1 spot in the Classic FM CD sales chart.
More recently Grimethorpe have represented England at the European Brass Band Championships, coming second in Norway (’08) and fifth in Belgium last year.
2010 is going to be a busy year for the band busy promoting a brand new CD ‘The Music Lives On, Now The Mines Have Gone’ which features Grimethorpe and 11 of the UK’s colliery bands (released on 1 March 2010 and available to buy via amazon). Grimethorpe will also continue to perform across the UK and in August head across to Switzerland for some special overseas performances.
